We look forward to receiving submissions from researchers, advocates, and those who have experienced a period in confinement!

- What was your first experience of a period in prison like? Did you think getting your period would be an issue before arriving at your facility? Is there a particular experience you had menstruating in prison that stuck with you? Did you feel you had access to what you needed to manage your period? Posts will be published the 15th of each month. Blog posts should be roughly 1,500 to 2,000 words and include a suggested title. Write clearly for a wide audience, including people who are not experts. Posts should be original work that is not published somewhere else. You must disclose any use of AI tools – using AI to assist in an outline is acceptable but you must be the one to actually draft the piece. This follows the AI Best Practices for Authors set forth by the Authors Guild. Posts should use hyperlinks for referenced material rather than footnotes or endnotes. Included images should either be owned by you or public domain/creative commons licensed, and image source information should be included in the submission email.
Please use this online form to submit your post. If you have any issues, let us know at blog@theprisonflowproject.com.
We will do our best to respond to every submission but may not get back to you if we are overwhelmed. Reviewers will have one month to make comments before sending a piece back for any suggested revisions. Our goal is an 8 week timeline from submission to approval, but please bear with us if it takes a bit longer as we get started! We do have bilingual Spanish reviewers for Spanish submissions, but please be aware that this may extend the posting timeline since we don’t want to overtax them.
By submitting your post, you agree that the Prison Flow Project has the right to publish your piece on our website, that you know we do not offer payment and cannot claim any compensation, and that we have the right to remove posts after publication if for any reason we deem it necessary (for example if the post is found to have been written by generative AI).
